Filtering a picture
I choose this picture of two boys kissing under a transparent white sheet. I thought the see-through effect was interesting to recreate painting. At first I didn't really know what to do with the image I choose, so I just recreated it with paint also playing with the colors. I think I didn't quite know what we meant by 'putting a filter over your picture' yet, so I stayed pretty tame here. I'd like to revisit this picture and this painting though.
Paint over pictures you made
These were my chosen pictures. I also used two actual photo's of one of my disposable camera's that turned out too dark to paint over, but I don't have a picture of those without paint on them. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger.
Paint over newspictures
After getting a feel of what to do with my own pictures I felt like I could try out new things with these ones. My favorite is the one with the gay flag, I painted it so that the whole page is filled with the rainbow colors.
Collage painting in a large format
I decided that for the collage I would only use the works that I already made and quickly put it together so that I wouldn't think about it too much. I feel like I started out the collage painting well, but I could done more adjustments. The first picture here was my first test and the second one is the one I painted.
This is my final collage painting. I feel like I could've went more crazy with the way I painted it. But I do like the end result, I feel like I stayed true to the original collage.
Instagram filters
Creating instagram filters with paint strokes we made on the spot. I wasn't sure what to paint at first so I just made random shapes and went with it. I think by layering them over each other they become very interesting. I also used a picture of my collage painting as a filter.
I think at first I was a bit stuck on creating a filter that I would wanna use myself on instagram, but I don't think that was the goal of the assignment. So I also tried a few experimental ones. I think there's tons of possibilities within this program and I would love to explore them in the future. I think I want to try adding digitally drawn images too, because I did feel a bit restricted by the paint strokes.
Overall
I think this blok the ABO lessons were very different and I quite liked that. We had to look at things a bit different than our previous ABO class. I also really liked that we could explore digital media too, I feel like there's tons to explore there. I think I went out of my comfort zone a bit more than usual, but I do think I could do that even more. I did like it a lot that we could just mess around with paints and pictures and we could just try out whatever we wanted. The lessons were quite fun!
